Manually manage music and videos
When your iPod has been set to manually manage music and video you will then have to manually add music and video to the iPod yourself.
How to manually add content to your iPod or iPhone:
- Go to your iTunes music or video library and then highlight the songs and video you want to add to the iPod.
- Drag and drop them onto the iPod icon located on the left hand side of iTunes.
How to manually eject your iPod:
- To do this right click on the iPod icon, and then click “Eject iPod”.
- Please note songs and video also have to be deleted manually.
To return to automatic syncing:
- If you would like your iPod to return to automatically synchronizing with your iTunes on connection, follow these steps. Please note doing this will delete any music and video on your iPod that is not also in the iTunes library.
- Make sure to copy any music and video that is not in iTunes but is on iPod to iTunes first. (Use tutorial found here)
- Disconnect iPod, at the top of iTunes in Windows click > edit. Then click > preferences .
- For Mac go to iTunes sidebar – in the section labeled > Devices, select your iPod/iPhone, then click on the Devices tab at the top of the menu.
- Then make sure the box next to > Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods is unchecked, if it is not please uncheck it now. Then Click > OK
- Connect iPod to iTunes, click on the iPod icon on the left hand side of iTunes. Then on the iPod main menu under > options uncheck the box next to > manually manage music and video. If a message pops up click > OK and then in the bottom right hand corner of iTunes click > Apply. After that if another message pops up click > Erase and Sync
